Seagull S6+ Cedar

Tell us about this guitar. To be honest, it looks a bit plain.

I wanted a simple but good guitar that I could use as a working instrument. A guitar that I don't have to "protect" from other players, and that I can use to play as a street musician. So I tried a lot of guitars that were not too expensive, and decided after two years of doubts that Seagull guitars are the best budget guitars there are. And they have the most beautiful headstocks in the business. Their logo is also way cool. This is a "S6+ Cedar" model, the simplest model they have, but it is extremely playable. I even have to admit that there are moments that this is my favourite instrument and I play nothing else.

Oh? That's quite a confession. How do you use it?

This is the guitar that I use when I play something in open tunings. I re-tune it constantly, which is no problem because with this instrument I'm not afraid to damage anything. Not that I'm not careful with it, but I don't care as much as with my other instruments. This shows, though: it has some small scratches on the soundboard, something that none of my other guitars have in this amount. Having said this, it still looks mighty fine.

Most of my music gets written on this instrument. Then, when a piece is finished, I finetune it on any of the other guitars.

How does it sound?

It sounds a bit thin, but the notes are nicely separated, which makes it great for fingerpicking: music never sounds cluttered on it.
