Leo Kottke

King of the hill on 6 and 12 strings

Leo Kottke is one of the best-known American steel string players, famous for his fingerpicking work on 6- and 12-string guitar. His playing can sound very agressive, but that's what I like about it: it has an energy that you normally just don't associate with an acoustic guitar. I also like the sense of humour that is just dripping off his performances. Leo Kottke is one of the few players of who I think the later work is much better than the earlier stuff. A lot of people won't agree with my listening tips, but these two really are my favourite Kottke albums.
Leo Kottke is single-handedly responsible for me owning a custom built 12-string guitar, a very loud beast that I'm still trying to control...
