Song

I started writing this piece when two close friends of mine announced they were planning to get married, so it was originally called "Wedding Preparations". For reasons too complicated (if not private) to mention here, the title was changed into what it is now. Eventually, I performed it at their wedding, so everything turned out OK. Try to play the first part with a feeling of expectation, and don't be afraid to put as much anger, agression and disappointment into the second part as you can manage. Just have fun with it!

Recording

Track length: [05:34].
Instruments: Da Montagne spanish (lead), Furch S-21-CR (percussion and fingerpicking chords), Seagull S6+Cedar (percussion and strummed chords), Samick Dobro (percussion)
I wanted the album to start with an arranged piece, and not with a solo piece. "Change of Heart" was the perfect candidate: it's melodic and easy going in the beginning, and it really lets rip in the second part, so it should make for a great opener. Everything you hear on this track is guitar, and that includes the percussion parts. Tapping on guitar bodies and scratching loose strings gave the sounds that were used. Coming up with a rhythmic structure that was interesting to listen to but at the same time not cluttering up the music was great fun! Synchronizing the different guitar parts, however, was extremely frustrating: I recorded the fingerpicking chords over and over again for more than two months, until I finally ended up with two tracks that sounded good in combination with the Spanish lead part. Listening back, I have to admit that it's almost impossible to hear that this song was so difficult to record. But it was.
