Song

This piece was written late 2000, when I was trying to get to grips with my new 12-string guitar. I performed it at the wedding of two of my friends, but have changed it a lot since then. Somewhere in the middle there is a part that was inspired by the song "Anak", performed by Freddy Aguilar, which I thought would fit as a contrast to all that agressive picking, sliding and strumming. And after all, this piece is about the fact that even the most masculine man begins his life as a helpless little baby. Cool!

Recording

Track length: [06:10].
Instruments: Da Montagne 12-string (lead and harmonics).
This is the only piece on the album where effects are used to add something musically. The delay, heard best in the harmonics section, is timed in sync with the rhythm, a trick that Brian May has perfected into an art. This is my humble tribute to him. The 12-string was hard to record. The guitar sounds almost thin when played high up the neck, and is very loud when strummed. And guess what? This piece contains both techniques! So most of the recordings had way too much noise in the quiet parts and clipped like hell whenever I played all 12 strings together, which happens quite a lot. Playing the fingerpicking parts with more enegry and restraining myself in the wilder parts was the only way to solve this problem. My only regret is that I think you can hear this in the performance: it sounds a bit "forced". But hey, this instrument is like a rabies infected wolf on steroids. You try playing it without getting bitten.

The 12-string guitar "Logan" was build at Lutherie Da Montagne, and they were kind enough to take pictures of various stages of the construction process. So in a way, in this picture we witness... you fill in the details.
